In this project-based course, students will be evaluated against rubrics developed around four areas of learning. These are:
Technical (30%)
This refers to the understanding of and ability to apply the basics of 3D modeling, texturing, animating, and rendering. This will be assessed directly through the first quarter exercises (see topic list).
Communication (20%)
This refers to the ability to effectively exchange ideas and information through oral, written, digital and creative expression on an interpersonal level. This would be assessed through small tasks that would be incorporated into a weekly blog post.
Creativity (design thinking process - 50%)
This refers to the ability to solve authentic communication challenges generated by both myself and/or students and in doing so demonstrate proficiency with the basics of 3D modeling, texturing, animating, and rendering. This would be assessed through successive projects throughout the second quarter. In doing so students will be introduced to the design thinking process and it’s different stages (empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping and testing).
Throughout the year, I will be structuring our activities and projects such that I can assess and provide feedback on these areas of growth. My early feedback will be formative in nature (Formative assessments are used to inform instruction and guide learning; they occur before or after instruction) and at the conclusion of each reporting term assessments will be focused on providing summative feedback (Summative assessments are used to evaluate or judge student achievement and occur after instruction). Not everything will be assessed every day or on every task, but my goal is to provide consistent and accurate feedback in regards to the following areas. Course grades are determined by trending data on the learning outcomes. Grading will be done on a 9-point scale (A+, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, F). Percentages will not be used. A copy of the high school grading policy can be found on a link on the class website.
